How do I swap my gateway eero?

Your gateway eero is the eero connected directly to your modem, modem/router combo, or ONT. You can replace it with either an eero already on your network or a brand new eero.

How do I swap my gateway eero with another eero on my network?

If you want to swap your gateway eero with one of your eero access points, follow these steps:

1. Unplug the eero you want to use as your new gateway from power

2. Unplug both your modem and gateway eero from power

3. Disconnect the Ethernet cable from your gateway, then connect it to the new gateway eero

4. Wait 3 minutes for your modem to fully power cycle. Make sure you have your new gateway eero's original power adapter

5. Power your modem on and wait until the indicator light shows it's online again. Depending on your modem, this can take several minutes

6. Power on your new gateway eero. Your network will automatically recognize it as the gateway eero once the LED turns solid white

How do I replace my gateway eero with a new eero?

If you recently bought a new eero and want to use it as your gateway eero, follow these steps:

1. Disable wifi and switch to cellular data on the device with the eero App installed. Your network will be offline for about 10 minutes

2. Open the eero App and tap the Home tab

3. Tap the (blue plus icon) in the top-right corner

4. Tap Replace eero

5. Tap the gateway eero. It will have “Gateway” under its name

6. Follow the on-screen instructions

7. Your network will automatically recognize the new eero as the gateway once its LED turns solid white
