Unlocking faster wifi—eero Built-in now supports Dynamic Frequency Selection

Your eero Built-In-capable Echo devices just got even better. eero Built-in now supports Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS), unlocking additional 5 GHz spectrum for enhanced network performance—at no additional cost.

More channels, more bandwidth, enhanced performance

At eero, we’re constantly innovating to help get the most out of your home wifi. Today, we’re excited to announce eero Built-in now supports DFS channels on select Echo devices. This enhancement allows Echo devices with eero Built-in to access additional 5 GHz channels that were previously unavailable, expanding your network’s available spectrum.

By enabling DFS channel support, eero networks can now utilize wider channels and tap into a less congested spectrum. This can mean enhanced overall network performance, especially in environments with multiple wifi networks competing for the same airspace. Whether you’re streaming 4K content, video calling with family, or managing your smart home devices, you may experience more reliable connectivity.

What’s new with DFS support

DFS channels are additional 5 GHz frequencies requiring special regulatory compliance to avoid interference with weather, aviation, and military radar systems. By adding DFS support to eero Built-in on Echo Dot Max and 2nd Gen Echo Studio, we’re expanding the available spectrum your network can use, which provides:

• More 5 GHz channels available for your eero Built-in devices to connect to

• Access to additional DFS spectrum, allowing your eero routers to utilize wider channel bandwidth (up to 160 MHz or 320 MHz depending on your eero model), while Echo devices connect via standard 80 MHz channels

• Potential performance improvements for bandwidth-intensive activities

This update is available for eero Built-in-enabled Echo Dot Max and 2nd Gen Echo Studio devices, ensuring that these Echo devices can take advantage of this enhanced capability through a software update. Please note that DFS channel support is not available on older Echo device models.

Seamless integration with your eero network

If you already have eero Built-in enabled on your compatible Echo devices (with the appropriate software version), you don’t need to do anything—DFS support is automatically available. Your Echo devices will intelligently select the best channels, including DFS channels when appropriate, to optimize your network performance.

eero Built-in continues to work the same way you love: simply link your Amazon account in the eero app and your compatible Echo devices can add extra coverage to your home. Now with DFS support, those devices have access to additional spectrum.
