How do I set up my eero PoE 7?

Installing the eero PoE 7 has additional requirements when compared to setting up a standard eero, but will be familiar for anyone who has previous experience installing the eero PoE 6. Refer to the instructions below for detailed instructions on how to install the mounting bracket and eero PoE 7 on a suitable surface.

If you wish to set up the eero PoE 7 using AC power, you will need to purchase an adapter separately.

What's in the box?

Your eero PoE 7 package includes:

  • One eero PoE 7 device

  • 1 mounting bracket

  • 4 30.0MM Drywall anchors

  • 4 #8-15x30mm Phillips screws

What do I need to set up my eero PoE 7?

Gather these items:

  • Phillips head screwdriver

  • Drill with drill bits

  • Internet connection and modem

  • Cat5e cable or better

  • Smartphone or tablet with the eero App

Note: Your eero PoE 7 gets power through its Ethernet cable using PoE (Power over Ethernet) standards 802.3at or 802.3bt. If you don't have PoE equipment, use an eero 27W USB-C power adapter (sold separately).

What do I need to know about my network setup?

Your eero PoE 7 works best when connected to a PoE power source. Here's what you need to know:

Power requirements: Each eero PoE 7 needs 25 W of power from your PoE equipment. Make sure your power supply can handle all the devices you plan to connect.

Network layout: You'll need a gateway eero between your modem and your PoE switch. The gateway eero manages your internet connection and routes traffic to your other eeros. If you are using an eero PoE 7 as a gateway, it will require an additional power source: PoE+ 25.5W (802.3at) or 27W USB-C power adapter (sold separately).

Connection port: Connect your PoE cable to the left-hand Ethernet port marked "10" on your eero PoE 7. This port handles both your internet connection and power input.

Professional installation recommended: Setting up PoE networks can be complex. We recommend working with a professional installer to ensure everything's configured correctly. See below for our recommended topology setup:

If you decide to use a third-party PoE+ switch or injector, keep in mind when setting up your network that the gateway eero must be placed ”in front” (upstream) of the PoE+ switch, between the modem/ONT and the PoE+ switch. See below:

Note: If your network is already in bridge mode, temporarily switch to Double NAT mode. Disable bridge mode, remove your old router, and install your eero gateway. Then you can set your upstream router back to bridge mode.

How do I install my eero PoE 7?

Step 1: Prepare for installation

You will want to identify a suitable location to mount your eero PoE 7, preferably a flat, elevated surface such as a wall or ceiling. If you are setting up your eero wirelessly (i.e., with a 27W eero AC adapter), tap the  (blue plus icon) in the top-right corner of the Home tab then Add indoor eero to use the eero Placement test and determine a location’s suitability prior to drilling any holes in surfaces.

  1. Choose your installation location on the wall or ceiling

  2. Drill 6 mm pilot holes where you want to install the device

  3. Insert the plastic drywall anchors into the pilot holes. Color-coding corresponds to the screw size chart displayed below

Step 2: Select the right screws

Use this guide to choose the correct screws for your installation:

Note: Screw size is the shank/main body diameter (in millimeters)-thread pitch.

Step 3: Mount the bracket

  1. Position the mounting bracket over your pilot holes

  2. Secure the bracket using the appropriate screws for your location

  3. Secure the bracket firmly before continuing

Note: See the diagram below for guidance on using drywall anchors to mount the bracket to drywall:

Step 4: Connect power

  1. Locate the 10 GbE PoE+ port marked with the ⚡ (lightning bolt) symbol

  2. Attach the PoE cable to the 10 GbE port on the eero OR connect the AC adapter if you have one

  3. Push the cable in until you hear a click

Your eero PoE 7 powers on automatically once connected. Your PoE 7 uses different colored lights to show you what's happening. See What do the colors of the LED light on my eero mean?

Step 5: Attach the device

  1. Place your eero PoE 7 onto the mounting bracket

  2. Turn the device clockwise until you hear a click

  3. Keep turning until you hear a snap—it's now securely in place

How do I complete setup in the eero App?

Once your device is mounted and powered on, complete setup in the eero App:

  1. Open the eero App on your smartphone or tablet

  2. On the Home tab, tap the (blue plus icon) in the top-right corner

  3. Tap Add indoor eero

  4. Follow the prompts to add your new eero PoE 7. The app will guide you through the rest of the setup process
